The LaFleur Horn
This horn was commissioned by a black powder buffalo hunter from the Great Lakes. He gave me an old French map of the Great Lakes and I added the other elements.

The LaFleur Horn
I had scraped the horn so thin you could see through it in places and so I didn’t dye the whole neck and spout. I left a little window so you could see how much powder you have left.

Compass Rose
In a band below the engrailing I engraved the client’s name and his birthdate. Below that on the outside curve is a compass rose them the map and then another band arount the base of the horn which contains the words: “Until our Paths Cross Again.” Below that is a band with Fleur de Lis in it. The butt plug was turned from walnut.

Buff’
The bottom two bands meet at this cameo with the image of an American Bison standing his ground in it. A couple of years later I spoke with this fellow again and he told me I’d be happy to know that this horn had two buffalo to its credit already.

Long Hunter
I superimposed this illustration of a long hunter taken from a photograph over a part of the map.
