Latest Photo Submission : The Coplin Horn 01/07/10

Gallery Name Description

Horns for Sale  This gallery contains a set of three powderhorns which commemorate the journey of Lewis and Clark. They are for sale as a set only. I'm also showing a couple of other pieces I have available as well.
Scrimshaw  This is scrimshaw that I've done on media other than horn. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Custom Horns  Over the years, I've let a number of horns "get away" without taking photographs of them and I have some where the photos are only "in process". Those are in this gallery. Some of the other horns I have done are presented in their own galleries
The Harper Horn  I think that this is the second or third horn I ever did. I made it for a friend and gave it to him. I'm including it here so you can see where I started.
The Preston Horn  This is my horn and was one of the first I made after I had begun to acquire some skill at scrimshaw. The architecture was interesting. The throat of the horn was faceted. Each of the facets was scalloped and had a 1/8 twist araound the body of the hor
The Thompson Horns  Here are two horns which were done for a couple. His was done some years ago. Hers was originally done as a grand prize for the ladies shooting aggregate at a rendezvous in 2008. I added the hawk and her name after the rendezvous.
The Kirkpatrick Horn  An early horn of mine. It was commissioned as a birthday gift from a wife to her husband.
The Kirkland Horn  This horn was done for a friend of mine in Wyoming. It was one of the first nudes I did. Otherwise he picked all of the elements and we went for a more free form approach to placement on the horn.
The LaFleur Horn  This horn was commissioned by a black powder buffalo hunter from the Great Lakes. He gave me an old French map of the Great Lakes and I added the other elements.
The Draper Horn  This horn was commissioned by a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He selected the artwork and I did the rest.
The Minor Horn  This horn was commissioned by a collector. he wanted a cameo of his wife on the horn bracketed by her favorite flower, Lilac; along with his favorite American Indian images. I added a lilac blossom in silver wire inlay in the base plug.
The Moler Horn  This horn was commissioned as a gift for a man from his wife. she wanted his initials on the horn and images of pheasants and quail. It was finished in November 2009.
The Bibb Horn  I originally made this horn to donate to the Honourable Company of Horners as an auction item. Jeff Bibb, a well known maker of southern Appalachian accoutrements, won it at auction so I inscribed his name and a date on it.
The Eaton Horn  One of my early horns, I made this for a good rendezvousing buddy of mine. This horn is the only one I have made so far with a turned and chip carved base plug.
The Prize Horn  This horn was given away as the prize for the men's shooting aggregate at a rendezvous I held in 2008. I had made several other horns and knives for prizes but I didn't have time to make a horn so i bought this horn on Ebay and scrimshawed it.
Stands and Stuff  This gallery has some other stuff I've done along with the hornwork.
The Coplin Horn  I finished this horn about the middle of June 2010.
