The Draper Horn
This horn was commissioned by a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He selected the artwork and I did the rest.
Click on the small picture to enlarge it. Once you are in the slide view mode you can use the arrows to see another picture. This is a close view of the outside curve of the horn. I did an illustration of the battle of August 19 1812, wherein the USS Constitution earned the nickname “Old Ironsides.”
This illustration was taken from a painting of the USS Constitution engaged with the HMS Guierriere a 38 gun British frigate. The Guierriere has been demisted in this image and “Old Ironsides” is closing for the kill.
The client, a decorated combat veteran and former USN Seal asked for a horn commemorating his service. I engraved an image of the US Navy Seals logo on a medallion of artificial ivory and inlaid it in a butt plug of walnut.
The client earned a Bronze Star with a valor device and a Purple Heart with two stars. He wanted to commemorate his service with his name, military designation and dates of service on the inside curve of the horn.
Around the base of the horn the engraving and additional engrailing bookends the lettering and illustrations with the engrailing at the throat of the horn.
