The Prize Horn
This horn was given away as the prize for the men’s shooting aggregate at a rendezvous I held in 2008. I had made several other horns and knives for prizes but I didn’t have time to make a horn so I bought this horn on eBay and scrimshawed it.
Click on the small picture to enlarge it. Once you are in the slide view mode you can use the arrows to see another picture. I originally wanted to put this image on the outside of the horn and had prepared to scrimshaw it there. I was about halfway finished with the horses face when I hit a soft spot in the horn and a large flake popped out leaving a hole which when inked looked like the horse had been gored in the face or had half his nose hot off…not the look I was going for. I sanded that work away turned the horn over and put the image on the inside curve.
I made this horn as the mens aggregate shooting prize for a rendezvous in 2008. I didn’t have time to actually make the horn so I bought this one on Ebay and engraved the image you see here from a painting I found on line.
